If you love rum punch cocktails, then you are going to LOVE a Bermuda Rum Swizzle! This boozy yet sweet rum cocktail will be the life of any party!
The name itself, Rum Swizzle, just sounds fun, right?!? One sip of this rum punch cocktail, and you will want to put your feet in the water – beach or pool; it doesn’t matter.
What does matter is that this cocktail is so delicious; it is dangerous. So please always remember to drink responsibly.
My Rum Swizzle recipe calls for two different rums, a little brandy, refreshing fruit juices, grenadine, and angostura bitters. “Swizzle” it with crushed ice, and you will have one perfect cocktail.
Drinking Our Way Through Bermuda
One reason we LOVE Bermuda is for its cocktails and beaches. The country is known for its pink sand beaches and Goslings Rum. Moreover, Bermuda has two famous cocktails, the Dark n Stormy and the Rum Swizzle.
We had our fair share of both cocktails, but we may or may not have had a pitcher more of the Rum Swizzle. Moreover, it was our first beverage on the island.
To celebrate our wedding anniversary, we stayed at one of the best resorts in Bermuda, the Reefs Resort and Club. When we walked through the doors, the staff had a glass of Rum Swizzle waiting for us. It was the best first impression ever because the cocktail was amazing!
Our sweet rum cocktail adventure did not stop there. We had more glasses of Bermuda’s rum punch on the resort, but we also ventured out to explore the island where many claim to have the best Rum Swizzle.
One of the best beaches in Bermuda is Horseshoe Bay Beach, and next to it is the acclaimed Rum Bum Beach Bar, known for its “best Rum Swizzle in Bermuda.” Indeed, it was delicious and way boozier than our resort’s version. The crystal clear blue water views with our cocktail in hand did not hurt either. Rum Bum Beach Bar is currently being redeveloped by a new vendor.
The other best Rum Swizzle in Bermuda is where the cocktail originated – at the Swizzle Inn Pub and Restaurant, Bermuda’s oldest pub. The Swizzle Inn serves its famous and spectacular cocktail in an iced pitcher – so everyone is encouraged to come thirsty!
So yes, as you can see, we left Bermuda as Rum Swizzle connoisseurs. Luckily, I have the perfect recipe to recreate all our wonderful memories and bring Bermuda’s famous cocktail into your kitchen.
What is a Bermuda Rum Swizzle?
A Rum Swizzle is essentially a fabulous rum punch cocktail (a cocktail made with rum, fruit juices, and grenadine). It was originated in Bermuda in the 1930s at the Swizzle Inn. The Rum Swizzle is also known as “Bermuda’s national drink,” which is why you can find it almost anywhere on the island.
In Bermuda, a traditional Rum Swizzle is created using an authentic swizzle stick – a literal stick that snapped off from a native evergreen tree in the Caribbean. On one end of the stick are multiple small branches protruding in different directions horizontally.
Then a bartender would take the stick and spin it rapidly between their hands until the cocktail started to froth – hence the name swizzle. Today, you can still find Rum Swizzles created by the traditional method, but it is also common to find the cocktail made in a cocktail shaker – like my recipe.
List of Ingredients in a Bermuda Rum Swizzle Cocktail
I highly recommend trying to use the best rum for this cocktail. Preferably, Goslings Rum because it is excellent quality and the official rum of Bermuda.
I also encourage using pure fruit juice (without pulp). The juices made from concentrate tend to be sweeter, and the Rum Swizzle is already perfectly balanced with the natural sweetness from the fruit juices.
Lastly, I use peach brandy in my recipe instead of the traditional apricot brandy. Being from Texas, I liked putting a little twist on the Rum Swizzle. Texas may not be known as the “Peach State,” but we certainly love our peaches in the summer just as much as Georgia.

How to Make a Bermuda Rum Swizzle Cocktail
Making a Bermuda Rum Swizzle Cocktail is very simple and easy. I use the modern-day method of using a cocktail shaker.
With that said, this recipe yields one glass. Therefore, if you want to make a pitcher of Rum Swizzle, I suggest mixing the ingredients in a pitcher and stirring the cocktail until it gets frothy.
This is a brief overview. Please refer to the full recipe description at the end of this post.

Just times the recipe by six or the desired amount to make a big batch recipe.
