The city is also booming with fantastic local restaurants and bars, so we suggest travelers stay at least one night to enjoy Killarney. History of the Cahernane Estate
In 1656, Henry Arthur and Edward Herbert were gifted estates in the Killarney county. Edward was gifted the famous Muckross Estate while Henry Arthur was gifted the smaller estates of Cullen and Cahernane. During the time of ownership, Henry Arthur demolished the Queen Anne style estate to rebuild it for a Victorian style estate. Today, the Cahernane House remains in its Victorian style.
For five generations, the Herbert families ran the three estates until 1914. It was during this time when Henry Arthur Herbert decided to lease the property to be used as a hotel in order to pay off debts. Over the last century the property changed hands many times over until 2016 when it finally rested in the capable hands of the International Hotel Management Company PREM Group. Now it one of the best boutique hotels in Killarney, Ireland.
Above and Beyond Hospitality
Cahernane House Hotel’s incredible hospitality is what makes this boutique hotel in Killarney, Ireland the best. Not only were we greeted with a warm Irish welcome, but we also had a beautiful letter and delicious desserts from the staff waiting in our room.
The generosity continued as our bell man, Roger, went above and beyond to make our trip perfect. We did not have any more euros for a taxi ride, so he offered to take us into the city. Not only did he save us money, but also the hassle of figuring out a way to get into the city. We could not have asked for better hospitality from the team at Caharnane House Hotel.
Accommodation
This luxurious 4 star boutique hotel in Killarney has only 40 spacious guest rooms and 28 amazing deluxe rooms. Twelve of the guest rooms are located in the original house, whereas the remaining rooms are located in the garden wing. Within the 40 spacious guests rooms are different room categories. In the manor house there are superior rooms, signature rooms and a Herbert Suite. In addition to the deluxe rooms, the garden wing also has superior rooms, junior suites and a Muckross Suite. Each room throughout the original house and garden wing are decorated with the intent of capturing the essence of the country manor traditions.
Muckross Suite
We were gracious to be placed in a spacious and luxurious Muckross Suite. Our room was decorated in a modern style with small touches of antique furniture to reflect the history and original time period of the manor house. Though we were not in a castle, the color patterns of soft silver and gold made us feel like royalty. Take a look into our beautiful suite.
Our Muckross Suite had a large living room equipped with a flat screen tv, couch, a nook for suitcases, cherry wood furniture and a beautiful antique cheveret desk. The room was very open because of the floor to ceiling windows throughout the suite. We even had our own private balcony with views of the sunset behind the Tomies and Glena Mountains.
Our bedroom was also spacious. It had a gorgeous ottoman, a luscious bed comforter and the softest pillows. This was our favorite bed of our entire Ireland trip – so comfortable! The bedroom also included a round table and an adorable coffee cart that we could enjoy in the morning.
The ensuite bathroom was cozier than our bedroom and living area. It had everything we needed – a single sink, toilet, shower and a relaxing full bathtub. We were also provided with complimentary Elemis amenities and bath robes to enjoy during our stay.
Dining Options
There are two dining options offered at Cahernane House Hotel – Herbert Restaurant and Cellar Bar. Herbert Restaurant is perfect for guests looking for a fine dining experience, whereas the Cellar Bar is for anyone looking for a more casual atmosphere.

Every detail brings a special touch to provide guests with a special dining experience.

Cahernane House Hotel offers guests a full Irish breakfast with a buffet-style cold selection of fresh fruit, charcuterie, cheese, yogurt, cereal and fruit juices. Guests can enjoy a selection of some light fare, main courses and desserts. Some dishes include, monkfish, lamb burger, traditional Irish cottage pie and more. Of course, the Cellar Bar offers a wide range of beers, spirits and wines for guests. In addition to the liquid gold of Ireland (Guinness), Cellar Bar also has locally produced beers from the Killarney Brewing Company on draft. The bar is open daily from 1pm – 6pm, but can stay open late for guests.

Well that definitely looks like an epic hotel experience. The desserts in the room are amazing, and that was so nice of the bell man to give you a ride into town! Hospitality like that is what makes travel so memorable, much more than the historic decor or the comfy bed.

I have always wanted to go to Ireland, though I am not familiar with Killarney. That hotel does look incredible and very "old Ireland" - I would love to visit!

That was a lovely stay in the beautiful boutique hotel. Even I prefer boutique hotel stays over usual hotel stays even if it is luxurious. Herbert families must have had a great life there. The Victorian style estate is a treat to the eyes. Hope you had a great time there.
