Enjoying Pink Sand Beach on Grand Cayman Island
Thanks to our all-inclusive package at Wyndham Reef Resort, my family and I enjoyed countless cocktails. One of our favorites was the Pink Sand Beach. We ordered so many it got to the point where the bartenders just started making them as we were walking up to the bar – no shame.
We were so happy with the Pink Sand Beach at the resort that we did not bother to try it anywhere else and it was all we ever ordered. It was just that good. So I have recreated the cocktail so we can enjoy it any day at any time we want.
What is a Pink Sand Beach Cocktail?
Grand Cayman Island is known for its beautiful attractions such as 7-Mile Beach, Stingray City, Rum Point, and Starfish Point. However, it is also known for one of the most famous cocktails, the Mudslide.
A Mudslide is a rich and sweet cocktail made with Kahlua, Bailey’s Irish Cream, vodka, and ice cream. So what is a Pink Sand Beach cocktail? A very berry, raspberry version of a Mudslide.
Though the Grand Cayman has beautiful beaches, it does not have any pink sand beaches like Bermuda. So this raspberry Mudlisde cocktail’s name is essentially derived by the fact that it is PINK! You can find different variations of a Pink Sand Beach cocktail throughout the island, but I am biased and think this version is the best.
Pink Sand Beach Cocktail Ingredients
As briefly stated above, there are different variations of a Pink Sand Beach cocktail. My recipe is inspired from the countless Pink Sand Beach cocktails we enjoyed at our resort, Wyndham Reef Resort.
- Vodka
- Raspberry vodka (or Chambord)
- Raspberries, fresh or frozen
- Vanilla ice cream
- Ice
- Whipped cream
How to Make a Pink Sand Beach Cocktail
Making the Pink Sand Beach cocktail is VERY easy. All you need are the ingredients and a quality blender.
First, you want to pour the two alcohols into the blender. Then add the raspberries followed by vanilla ice cream and ice. Make sure you cover the blender tightly and depending on your settings, slowly start pureeing the ingredients together.
As the ingredients start blending together to create a smooth cocktail, you can increase the speed to liquify it more. If you have a liquify setting on your blender, I would finish your cocktail for a few seconds on this setting.
You can also puree the cocktail to your liking. So if you want a thick milkshake texture, I would not puree the cocktail for too long. I prefer to puree/liquify the Pink Sand Beach cocktail for about 30-60 seconds.
To top the cocktail off, I add a dollop of whipped cream. You can use store-bought or homemade. For my homemade whipped cream, I whip together heavy cream and powdered sugar until it forms medium to stiff peaks.
Tips and Tidbits
Here are a few simple tips and tidbits when making your delicious Pink Sand Beach cocktail.
Follow the Given Steps in Order
You may think that making a cocktail in a blender is easy and needs no steps – that is true. However, I find that adding alcohol first does make a difference. When you add the alcohol first, it helps the blender liquefy all the ingredients smoothly. Otherwise, if you add other ingredients first it can make the blender clog or work harder than needed.
More Booze Please!
Through trial and error, we found this recipe to be perfect for anyone. However, if you enjoy your booze, do not be afraid to add an ounce or two more. In fact, my family enjoys one ounce more of vodka in their Pink Sand Beach cocktail. Though it is stronger, they have no problem finishing their cocktail and asking for more.

- 1 cup ice
Whipped Cream

Whipped Cream
- Whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar together using a stand mixer or electric hand mixer with the whisk attachment. Start whisking the ingredients together slowly, gradually increasing the speed until the whipped cream has medium peaks.
